When Cesar Tirado joined FEWA on Feb. 2, 2007, as a data entry clerk, he could not have known that he was beginning a career that would span two decades and take him from an entry-level position to managing FEWA’s Monterrey, Mexico, office.
Just three weeks after joining FEWA, Cesar began traveling between Monterrey and Nogales, Sonora, to oversee operations there. Within five months, he was handling administrative responsibilities for both offices. His responsibilities continued to grow, and in April 2013, he became Monterrey Office Manager.
Today, Cesar keeps the office running smoothly while serving as an important link among FEWA management, staff, employer members, and the workers FEWA serves. From coordinating supplies, equipment, and daily operations to communicating new procedures and addressing issues, his focus is making sure his team has what it needs to do its job effectively.
Most importantly, Cesar and the Monterrey team help guide workers through the process of preparing to work for FEWA member employers in the United States.
“We strive to make every worker feel comfortable and confident, and to give them peace of mind by making sure they understand what they need to do at each stage of the process,” Cesar said.
For Cesar, one of the most rewarding moments is seeing workers receive their visas. After hearing their stories and learning about the communities they come from, he understands how much the opportunity can mean.
“Knowing that they will have a job opportunity in the United States that will allow them to send money home to their families and help provide them with a better life gives me a great deal of satisfaction,” he said.
A lifelong Monterrey resident, Cesar studied Computer Systems Technology and spent his earlier career in banking, insurance, and retail. He says two interests have been constant throughout his working life: customer service and computers.
Outside the office, Cesar enjoys traveling with his husband, Carlos, gardening, exploring nature, dining with friends and spending time with Chihuahua Alana and cats Sirius, Güera and Zalka. He especially loves discovering new places, cultures, and foods.
After 20 years, Cesar says FEWA has become much more than a workplace.
“I truly consider FEWA a work family,” he said. “We are all here to support one another.”
That sense of trust and support has kept Cesar learning, growing, and serving others throughout his FEWA career.
“I could not be more grateful to FEWA and to my managers for the trust, support and kindness they have always shown me.”
