We’ll be featuring staff who are part of our FEWA family. It’s only fitting to start with Rita Romero, pictured here with husband Javier and five of their six grandchildren.
As one of its first employees, Rita Romero’s journey with the Federation of Employers and Workers of America (FEWA) spans over two decades, a testament to her dedication and passion for the organization’s mission.
Her professional path took a pivotal turn 29 years ago, when she went to work in the lawn and landscape industry alongside Scott Evans, FEWA founder and president.
Rita’s transition to FEWA in 1995 was more than a career move; it was an opportunity to contribute to an organization whose mission resonated with her on a personal level.
“Working here is like being part of a family,” Rita says, highlighting the strong sense of community that has been crucial to her long-standing commitment.
Her connection to FEWA was shaped by her family’s experiences—most notably her husband Javier, originally from Mexico, obtaining U.S. citizenship.
As FEWA’s office manager, Rita handles bookkeeping and accounting, and is a long-time member guide who fills in for other guides when they’re out of the office. She has worked with more H-2B employers than any individual in the program’s history and serves as a go-to expert for governmental agencies on H-2B technical questions. Rita believes FEWA is much more than a workplace; it’s a platform for fostering dreams and building futures.
When she isn’t working, Rita spends time with her three adult children and six grandchildren who live nearby. She is a Bay City, Texas, native with a large extended family.
Dancing is her passion, and she and Javier enjoy cumbia dancing to Tejano music at family celebrations and gatherings. One of their favorite songs to dance to is Como la Flor by Selena.
Rita is proof that passion and hard work can lead to a fulfilling career and a joyful life.
